Thoroughbred Breeders Victoria prefers to be a quiet achiever and doesn’t boast the inroads it has made over many decades, but it’s hard to continue to fight the good fight without the support of breeders in the state.

We ALL benefit from TBV’s accomplishments, but increased membership will always provide it with a far louder voice.

Tax advice from the Horse’s Mouth?

Well, we’re pretty sure it’s advice from Paul Carrazzo’s mouth, but regardless of who is dispensing the good oil, you could save yourself a lot of loot by attending the Taxation Seminar at the Magic Millions Sales Complex on Monday 9 January from 4pm.

OK, tax is a subject none of us like to even think about at this time of year – it’s bad enough to be talking about it in June.

However, just as we’re never going to be able to avoid the other half of the equation, tax is a major issue for those who buy and sell.

GOD’S OWN ON HIGH

Finding an earn at any time of the year taint easy, but many of us feel like we’ve had the blowtorch applied to our tootsies come Christmas.

Therefore, the run of God’s Own progeny in the past week not only provides some welcome relief for supporters, but it could also be a sign from above.

Since Godliness’ win at Kyneton last Tuesday, God’s Own produced a treble with his only three runners on Wednesday – Maker’s Marque and Bartholomew (a running double at Sale) and Sons of God (below) scoring at Eagle Farm; a winner (God’s Secret) and second (San Jose) on Thursday; a winner (Lady Rum Dum) from three runners on Friday; a second (St Gabriel) and third (Happy Soldiers) from three runners on Saturday; and, yesterday, a winner, Higgs Boson (Singapore), a second, Black Jack Boy and third, Lady Pania (Moonee Valley) from six runners.

In brief, that’s six winners and five placegetters from just 17 runners in the past six days! Throw in a couple of cheques for owners from runners that ran into fourth and you have quite a stellar week.

AUSSIE WORKSAFE

This gem has come from Magic Millions’ Michelle Page who, given her location in the ‘Perfect’ state is more likely to be seen sporting the pictured footwear than her rain-swept, southern compadres.

However, while we applaud innovation of any kind, there is a feeling that you won’t find too many of them at the Gold Coast complex in January.

Evidently they are being marketing as the Steelcap Thong, made by Australians for Australians, but there is also a New Zealand version called ‘Jandols Bro’.

GOD’S OWN – THE HOLY TRINITY (PLUS ONE!)

4 winners in 2 days

Emerging sire, God’s Own, weighed in with his first treble yesterday notching up a double in Victoria via Maker’s Marque and Bartholemew before Sons of God led the way at Eagle Farm in Queensland.

And boosted by the victory of the aptly named, Godliness, at Kyneton on Tuesday, God’s Own is shooting up the Third Season Sires’ chart by winners.

Impressively, the four victories were achieved from only five starters!

The Barrie and Midge Griffiths owned Godliness, was having only her second outing after finishing a lip second on 17 November, but would lead throughout at Kyneton to score convincingly.

Out of the Forest Glow mare, All The Rave, Godliness is trained by Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra who are also the trainers of God’s Own’s city winning, stakes placed sprinter Utah Saints.

As luck (fate?) would have it, God’s Own’s first winner yesterday – Maker’s Marque – also has a Griffiths connection, only this one is courtesy of Cranbourne’s gun mentor, Robbie Griffiths.

Maker’s Marque – a 4YO mare from the Fraar mare Fraarie – looked the winner a fair way from home in the 1200m scamper at Sale, scoring by two panels.

Bartholemew made it a running double at Sale when he scored over 1500m for Colin and Cindy Alderson, who are also part owners of the nifty 3YO.

We’re tipping Bartholemew is named after the legendary Bart Cummings who trained God’s Own to an equally legendary Caulfield Guineas victory and remains a major shareholder in the stallion.

Bartholemew, from the Dehere mare Harrow, had no luck at all on debut at Ballarat on 20 November and this was sweet retribution for the Aldersons.

Last but certainly not least is the Robert Heathcote trained Sons of God who put in a thriller at Eagle Farm over 1200m, beating his rivals (if you’ll excuse the pun) to the punch.

Sons of God is out of the Celtic Swing mare, Lucky Punch, and was resuming from a lengthy spell when successful at the Farm.
