As we all know, ‘pinhooking’ can go horribly wrong … a lot
of shattered dreams on that highway!
However, occasionally you get it right, as was the case
yesterday at Karaka with the Northern Meteor colt from Espuela (below) which was knocked
down to Tony Pike Bloodstock for NZ$160,000.
Three years ago, Espuela’s Tobougg yearling was sold for
$14,000 and her Benicio weanling fetched just $12,000.
Last year the Northern Meteor weanling was purchased by
David O’Callaghan’s EBA for $40,000 at the Magic
Millions National Weanling Sale, effectively quadrupling his weanling price in
a tick over six months.
