If Saturday’s win at Morphettville is
anything to go by, Written Tycoon’s debutante Alezan Thunder certainly lives up
to her name.
Alezan is French for ‘chestnut’ and the
Mark Kavanagh trained youngster certainly kicked up a storm over the 1000m,
winning by almost three lengths.
Purchased for $55,000 by Kavanagh at this
year’s Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale, Alezan Thunder was bred by Farooq
Breeding in NSW and is now part-owned by Harry Perks, one of South Australia’s
most successful owners.
Interestingly, Alezan Thunder is out of the
Thunder Gulch mare Elysian Thunder, whose name is something on an oxymoron,
given that the definition of Elysian is blissful, delightful.
Still, if the filly can keep going the way
she started, she’s bound to bring a lot of bliss to her connections.
It’s worth noting that Written Tycoon
didn’t get his first winner until February and yet ended up Champion Australian
First Season Sire in 2010/11, yet he’s now pulled out a winner in one of the
first juvenile races of the season: and a good winner too!
Interestingly, Written Tycoon is now equal
second by winners on the Second Season Sires’ list with five individual
winners.
