Bel
Esprit (below) has continued his winning run into March with six winners in as many
days, kicking off with Bel Price winning at Launceston on 29 February (the
Vicki Rhind trained 3YO now winning two and placings three times from six
starts) and followed up by victories to Plain Lucky in WA on 1 March (his third
from eight), Mick Price’s Monte Bella at Moonee Valley on Friday night (three
and five from 11), a double with Bel Tornado at Wodonga and Don’t Worry Toff at
Geelong (a win, second and third from three outings) on Saturday and a
resounding effort by Hot Lover at Warrnambool who had scored previously at
Morphettville and has now two from three.
However,
it was a ‘non winner’ that probably attracted the most attention when the Mick
Price trained Mandla finished second in the Streets Ice Cream Stakes-LR over
1000m at Flemington on Saturday.
Bred
and owned by Julie Nicholson – from her 6-time winning Rustic Amber mare Queen
Kahuna – Mandla had absolutely no luck in running but finished on strongly
behind the unbeaten Fire Thunderbolt.
Definitely
one for the black book.
