RAY IS ‘DEVASTATED’

Ray Nicholson (left) is passionate about his horses and is cock-a-hoop about the recent form of 4YO mare, State of Affairs.
Owned by Woodside Park, State of Affairs has now raced on six occasions, recording wins at her last two starts, finishing second twice and running fourth at her other starts.
Effectively, she is yet to finish out of the money.
And although the affairs of State of Affairs don’t exactly enhance Ray’s bank account – per se – Ray picked up her dam, Devastate, at the Easter Broodmare sale three years ago for just $500.
She had missed after her previous two visits to Fusaichi Pegasus and Hussonet.
Ray purchased her with a specific aim in mind – to send the mare to Eliza Park stallion Danbird.
And rather than me explaining it, you can see what Ray had in mind from the tabulated pedigree below.
Although Ray and Devastate had to sit out the 2007 spring due to the EI drama, the mare was covered by Danbird late in 2008 and produced an absolutely cracking colt.
Despite the 26 November foaling date, Ray reckons the colt is an absolute cracker and growing “like a weed”.
Confident he’s on the right track, Ray put his mare back in foal to Danbird last spring. Good luck Ray!
