Congratulations to Sydney trainer David
Vandyke on the thrilling victory of Lamasery in the Johnnie Walker Stakes-LR at
Flemington on Tuesday.
Some might consider the race after the
Melbourne Cup to be something on an anti-climax but the look of sheer joy on
the face of Vandyke as his horse crossed the line is a sobering reminder that
event the small fish are sweet.
Vandyke only has half a dozen in work –
including Choice Words who was stakes placed in Sydney in September – and also purchased
a cracking General Nediym colt from Eliza Park’s 2011 Melbourne Premier
Yearling Sale draft in March for $100,000.
Interestingly, the first three across the
line in the Johnnie Walker were all trained by Davids: (Lamasery) David Vandyke
– who changed his named from David Hayes; (Extra Zero) David Hayes – who hasn’t
changed his name and; (Right Fong) David Balfour.
