Well, that settles it … the 2012 Geelong
Cup winner gets some of mine if he or she goes around in next year’s Melbourne
Cup.
Geelong’s showpiece would now, officially,
have to rank as the No. 1 formguide going into the Melbourne Cup with three
Geelong winners in the past 10 years backing up with victory on the first
Tuesday in November (Dunaden [2011], Americain [2010] and Media Puzzle [2002]).
Furthermore, Bauer was beaten a whisker by
Viewed in the 2008 Melbourne Cup after winning at Geelong, while On A Jeune ran
second to Makybe Diva in 2005 on the back of a Geelong Cup.
The Fuzz won the 2007 Geelong Cup, but was
scratched from the big one after running second in the SAAB (now Lexus) and
Zazzman also didn’t run in the 2003 Melbourne Cup despite winning at Geelong –
although he did go on to take out the Queen Elizabeth-G2 … a similar course to
that charted by Savrocca three years earlier who won both the Geelong Cup and
Queen Elizabeth.
