Shinzig filly, Lil Mer, appears to be well
poised for black type success following another impressive victory at Trentham
on Saturday.
Having only her fifth outing – and her
toughest assignment to date – Lil Mer jumped from an outside gate, humped 57kgs
and took on the older horses in the Ascend Sales Trophies Premier at Trentham,
but still found plenty at the post.
Leased by St Elmo Racing and trained by
Stacey Dougan, Lil Mer finished down the track on debut, but with almost five
months off, she resumed with a pair of seconds before scoring at Hastings on 29
June.
A great granddaughter of Champion mare and
NZ Horse of the Year in La Mer, Lil Mer was bred by Kerrie O’Callaghan – a
champion in her own right – and is out of the Festival Hall mare, Indeed. And
this filly is, indeed, very promising.
