TALE OF THE SALE

Kevan Wacey was a happy man on Friday night. A long-time breeder/owner and supporter of Eliza Park, Kevan struck the double when both his Tale of the Cat yearling sold for $180,000 and his stakes placed Magnus 3YO, How Swede It Is, scored well at Mornington later in the afternoon.
“Yes, it was a memorable day to say the least,” Kevan points out. “I thought the sale rewarded really good types. You always have your fingers crossed heading into any sale, but the Tale of the Cat colt exceeded my expectations and Eliza Park did a great job turning him out the way they did. Totally happy!”
Another breeder who will have fond memories of Gold Coast ’13 is John Barton, whose Not a Single Doubt colt brought $240,000.
“The mare, Get the Hint was in foal to Not a Single Doubt and purchased on my behalf for $30,000 at the Magic Millions Broodmare Sale in 2011.
“She foaled down at Eliza (and was subsequently covered by Bushranger in ’11 and ’12) and the colt was raised at Eliza Park’s Nagambie operation before moving across the river to Eliza Park Smithfield who did a terrific job in prepping the colt for the Gold Coast.
“What’s more, it was my wife, Maree’s, birthday the same day the colt sold!”
