WIN SOME, LOSE SOME!

The handy God’s Own 4YO, Step Abart, won in good order at Sale on Wednesday, following up from his debut victory in November.
Back then, we took a punt that Step Abart was named in deference to God’s Own’s breeder/owner/trainer – the legendary Bart Cummings – and this has subsequently been confirmed by Step Abart’s breeder and part owner, Greg Macmillan – not Gary Macmillan … Greg Macmillan. That’ll teach me to assume!
Anyway, thanks for pointing that Greg and also for some background on the dam, Two Steps Ahead, who was purchased from Juddmonte Farms as a racing prospect a few years back but unfortunately broke down.
Greg explains that the mare is closely related to Arc winner and sire Blushing Groom and it would hopefully “give them some nice staying blood”. It seems to have worked with Step Abart who won his latest assignment over 2200m and appears to be getting better with both age and distance.
