God’s Own
continues to fly under the radar. With over $1.1 million in progeny earnings
this season, God’s Own racked up his 42nd individual winner in
‘11/12 when God Only Knows (ex. Shining Thread by Sir Tristram) got the money
for Darren Weir and his happy band of owners at Hamilton yesterday.
But while God’s
Own finished the weekend on a winning note, he came very close to lobbing with
a city treble on Friday/Saturday:
- With three city placings from five starts prior to stepping out at Canterbury on Friday night, Homedge (ex. Alternative Edge by Rory’s Jester) flew home for second over 1100m in her first run in six months.
- On Saturday at Flemington, David Moodie’s 2YO, Pillar of Creation (ex. Cosmic Dust by Hurricane Sky) struck more trouble than a teenager on his first night out when third over 1200m after coming from last at the 400m mark. His only previous outing was a third at Sale on 1 April when he again raced greenly.
- And finally you had the ultra-consistent, Vatican (ex. Our Sistine by Peintre Celebre) who battled on gamely for second over 1100m at headquarters, having run third – beaten a head – over 1000m at Moonee Valley on 31 March.
