It’s the kind of result we all dream of!
At last month’s Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale in
Newmarket, England, Tally-Ho Stud – which stands dual Champion 2YO, Bushranger,
during the northern hemisphere season – consigned a Shamardal colt from the
winning Swain mare, Balloura (below), who in turn is out of a stakes winning half
sister to Danehill’s 3-time Group One winner and sire Oratorio.
Anyway, Tally-Ho had originally purchased the colt for
53,000 guineas (around $90k) at the 2010 Tattersalls December sale, before
placing the youngster in last year’s Tatts October Yearling sale – eventually
bringing him back home.
However, a lot of water must have passed under the
bridge in the last four or five months, because Tally-Ho managed to sell the
colt for 500,000 guineas (close to $900k) at the Breeze Up!
Post sale, Tally-Ho’s Roger O’Callaghan said that they
only expected around 100,000-150,000 guineas for the colt, so it’s fairly safe
to say that the drive back to the farm was somewhat joyous.
Best part of all – well, from Eliza Park’s perspective –
is that Balloura is in foal to Bushranger and given the wraps on his foals,
someone is bound to make better than bank interest a couple of years down the
track.
