Sun International Group, whose foray into
Australian racing and breeding was highlighted by the purchase of the some
outstanding weanlings and broodmares at the Gold Coast Magic Millions National
last week, again stepped up to the plate by snapping up an exciting Redoute’s
Choice colt on day one of the sale’s yearling section.
Entering the ring just five lots from the
close of play, there’s nothing tail end about this colt: he was eventually
knocked down for $150,000 and will now head to the powerful Gai Waterhouse
stable in Sydney.
Sun International Group’s, Ting Kong Cheng,
explained that the colt had much more than just good looks in his favour:
“First of all, he’s by a legend of Australian breeding in Redoute’s Choice (below) –
the country’s preeminent sire of sires.
“The colt is also very well bred, being a
half brother to five winners including stakes winner Flying Alpha, in turn the
dam of last season’s 2YO stakes winner, Cambiaso. It’s a great black type
family overall which includes another influential speed sire in Zeditave.
“Importantly, this colt is bred to Northern
Hemisphere time – having been foaled on 19 January.
“This really provides us with a number of
options … we can certainly campaign him for some of the major events overseas –
in Europe or North America – ultimately with the view of standing him at stud.”
