Another super effort from Arctic Flight in
the Group Two Dane Ripper at Eagle Farm yesterday, fighting on like a caged
lion for third behind Red Tracer.
The Anthony Cummings trained mare – a full
sister to Group One winning sprinter and leading 2nd Season Sire,
Magnus – Arctic Flight went into the Dane Ripper hot off stakes success in the
Dark Jewel on 18 May.
While she couldn’t bridge the half length
required for her first Group Two success there was plenty to appreciate about
the way she fought on: jumping to the lead, moving back to second at the 800m,
taking the lead again a furlong out before being pipped in the shadows.
Earlier in the program, Magnus’ 5-time
stakes winner, Platinum Kingdom, had absolutely no favours from his wide
barrier (17) in the Listed Daybreak Lover over 1600m.
Having to use up plenty of petrol to hit
the front by the 800m, he held the lead until 200m from home but never gave up
when headed. Sterling performance!
