The Robbie Griffiths trained Beltrois has been working toward a stakes win and, following his classy victory over 1200m at headquarters in mid December, was earmarked for the Standish Handicap-G3 over the same course and distance on New Year’s Day.
Sadly, he was to be denied by Royal Ida – by a neck – but put in a tremendous performance nevertheless and that Group trophy appears to be just around the corner.
Beltrois is out of the Noalcoholic mare Vaingt Trois and becomes the 10th black type horse for Bel Esprit.
Part-owner Brian Donohoe snaps the Beltrois cheer squad, while Beltrois (below) wins at Flemington on 12 December.
