Ararat racecourse is around a 100k or so from Tony Laidlaw’s stables at Tarrington, but you’d think the trip home was fairly short on Tuesday (5 January) after Broms Express’ victory in the Grampians Event Hire Maiden Plate.
Not that Tony wasn’t aware he had a pretty smart horse on his hands. The Delago Brom 4YO had run third at his only previous start – at Bairnsdale back in April – and is clearly a horse with promise.
Bred by Wynneford Park and R Armstrong, Broms Express is out of the Lord Seymour mare, Set to Seymour, a multiple winner in the Apple Isle and a three quarter sister in blood to South Australian SW Duke Abbey and closely related to King Hoaks who won last year’s Standish Handicap-G3 at Flemington.
