Victoria’s ‘sleeper’, Clangalang, scored his first black type as a sire yesterday (3 January) but it was oh so close to being caps rather than lower case!
Ultra consistent 3YO, Geegees Blackflash went within a whisker of taking out the $80,000 Betfair Tasmanian Guineas-LR (1600m) at Launceston, which would have been the Clangalang neddy’s fourth win and fifth placing from just 14 starts.
After doing most of the work in front and leading them well into the straight, Geegees Blackflash was grabbed right on the line by Excuse My French.
Geegees Blackflash’s last five outings have now produced two wins and two seconds.
Bred and raced by P A & E J Geard, Geegees Blackflash is out of the Grand Lodge mare La Quita, a half sister to SA Derby-G1 winner Cheviot.
Despite limited representation, Clangalang has now produced 33 horses who have either won, placed or earned stakes from just 42 starters.
