Bel Esprit actually notched up a double at
Wangaratta on Friday with Royal Express following up Yahilu’s victory earlier
in the day.
Experience wise, the two are poles apart –
while Yahilu was stepping out for the first time, the evergreen Royal Express
was recording his eighth victory to go with 11 placings.
Amazingly, it took two and a half years and
14 starts before Royal Express hitting his stride, but Friday’s score at Wang
was his second on the trot and third from his last four starts. Indeed, he’s
only been out of the placings once in his last seven outings.
Royal Express is out of the Hennessy mare,
Hennessia, and is trained by Paul Maher.
