Wanted has come up trumps following his initial
dip into the yearling sale pool, selling up to $460,000 at the 2013 Gold Coast
Magic Millions and averaging just shy of $150,000.
Importantly, Wanted’s appeal was definitely
‘global’. The colt from Regal Arena (bred and raised by Eliza Park before being
sold at the MM National Weanling Sale last June for $255,000) was the highest
priced lot by a freshman when knocked down to Hong Kong’s George Moore for
$460,000 … but only after a spirited battle with Gai Waterhouse.
Gai was hardly denied though and subsequently
purchased two Wanteds: the colt from With Love for $320,000 and another colt
(this one from Royal Singer) for $130,000.
Other leading stables were quick to step up
too with Peter Moody, Mick Price, Paul Perry, leading Perth trainer, Trevor Andrews,
recently re-located Kiwi trainer John Sargent and South Africa’s Paul Lafferty.
“We were pretty excited about Wanted’s
prospects leading into the sale, but he really was the talk of the town from
day one,” Eliza Park’s Mark Lindsay points out. “I think the underlying aspect
is that they are such great types and that’s probably substantiated by the fact
each of the 11 Wanted yearlings offered were all sold.
“For a stallion that stands at $33,000 to
achieve almost five times service fee in that forum is a huge plus and we’re
obviously looking forward to Melbourne and Easter.”
